About Mr. Tommy
Thomas Plotzke III is currently a sophomore at Oakland University studying Psychology with a music minor. Music has been in his life for as long as he can remember. His mom was a choir director, his sister played piano and sung around the house, he has loved enjoying all forms of music for as long as he can remember. Ever since he begun his own musical journey, many opportunities in the western classical music tradition have been an outlet for his playing and pedagogy. That isn’t to say his ear and playing hasn’t explored areas like jazz, pop, hip-hop, electronic, R&B and rock, but he will admit he has a soft spot for contemporary compositions.
Teaching Philosophy
In my teaching I reward curiosity and I advocate for music as an extension of the students sense of self. I want every one of my students to understand the role of our subconscious mind, refraining from ever casting judgement on their abilities. Through this lens, I find that I can lead my students to a greater understanding of music and instill positive reinforcement as a natural and effective way to obtain their goals.

Why Teaching?
I chose to teach music because believe that learning music is a powerful tool for life. Music making can build an excellent understanding of the principles of growth mindset; skills in music open up opportunities to participate in fun cooperative social events; musical growth leads to a greater understanding of every individuals cognitive and motor learning. In learning music I have gained an ever improving sense of self and I wish to bring that lens of introspection, growth, honesty and positivity to all my students.
